This
course provides an introduction to web-based design. Students will
learn the basic concepts of HTML, digital layout, text and image
manipulation, browser compatibility, interface design, client-designer
relations, navigability and usability. Lab assignments and homework
bring students through the entire design process as experienced in the
profession: Assessing the client's goals and intended audience, taking
an inventory of appropriate technology, organizing the structure of
content, creating models for navigation, determining visual
presentation elements, implementing the interface for cross-browser
compatibility, evaluating the site for usability and client
expectations, launching the site, and developing a plan for
maintenance. Class time is devoted to lecture, discussion, peer
evaluation and hands-on website development. Applications used in this
course include Adobe Dreamweaver and PhotoShop, and Microsoft Internet
Explorer and Mozilla Firefox.
